The PS5 Pro launched on 7 November 2024 for €799.99. Since 2 April 2026, Sony has been selling it for €899.99 in Europe. This more powerful version of the PS5 relies on a beefed-up GPU, faster ray tracing and AI upscaling via PSSR, but it ships without a disc drive. Here’s its price and how it has evolved, its specs, what really changes in games, and our verdict versus a gaming PC.
In brief

PS5 Pro price: launch and evolution
Sony unveiled the PS5 Pro on 10 September 2024 and launched it on 7 November 2024. Its price hasn’t dropped since, in fact, it has:
| Date | Recommended price in Europe | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 7 November 2024 (launch) | €799.99 | PlayStation Blog |
| Since 2 April 2026 | €899.99 | PlayStation Blog |
In the United States, the console went from $699.99 to $899.99 over the same period. Sony explains the 2026 increase with “ongoing pressures from the global economic context.” At this price, you also need to add the Blu-ray drive if you buy boxed games, plus a PlayStation Plus subscription to play online.

As with the PS4 Pro in 2016, the PS5 Pro is a more powerful “mid-generation” version.

The heart of the PS5 Pro remains an AMD chip, with a substantially strengthened GPU.

PSSR expands the image using AI, just like DLSS on PC.
The PSSR plays the same role as NVIDIA’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR on PC: the game is calculated at a lower resolution, and then the AI reconstructs a sharp image in 4K. In March 2026, Sony rolled out a new version of PSSR, developed through its partnership with AMD and the FSR 4 technology, with Resident Evil Requiem as the first compatible game (TweakTown, March 2026).
PS5 or PS5 Pro: what’s the difference in games?
On a 4K TV, the PS5 Pro displays a sharper and more stable image, especially in “PS5 Pro enhanced” games that take advantage of its GPU and PSSR. The biggest and most noticeable improvement is the performance mode: whereas the PS5 has to choose between 60 frames per second and a nice-looking image, the Pro often manages to deliver both. On a Full HD TV, however, the difference is small.

Big console exclusives like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 benefit the most from the PS5 Pro improvements.

PS5 Pro or a gaming PC: which should you choose?
At €899.99, the PS5 Pro fits within a gaming PC’s budget. The deciding factor mainly comes down to how you like to play.
| Criteria | PS5 Pro | Gaming PC |
|---|---|---|
| Ease of use | Plug in and play | No Windows to manage, but a PC delivered ready by FlowUP |
| Online gaming | A PlayStation Plus subscription required | Free on most games |
| Game prices | Less frequent promotions | Steam sales, Epic and other shops |
| Exclusives | PlayStation releases first | Many arrive later (God of War Ragnarök, Spider-Man 2, Horizon) |
| Evolution | None, you’ll need a PS6. | Upgradeable graphics card, memory and storage |
| Other uses | Games and video | Streaming, editing, work, mods |

PlayStation exclusives remain the console’s top advantage, even if many eventually end up on PC.
Our assembler’s take: if you mainly play Sony exclusives on a big 4K TV and want zero tweaking, the PS5 Pro is an excellent machine. If you play online, enjoy competitive games, mods, streaming, or you want a machine that can evolve, a gaming PC is a better long-term investment. Here are two setups we offer:

Console or PC under the TV: both connect via HDMI, but only the PC is upgradeable.
Novara PC GeForce RTX 5070 12GB
RTX 5070 12 GB and Ryzen 5 7500X3D: super-smooth 1440p and 4K with DLSS 4, to play, stream and work.
