Gaming PC RTX 4080: specifications and performance in 2026

Specs, FPS at 1080p, 1440p and 4K, and today’s equivalents

By the FlowUP team, gaming PC builder in Genappe (Belgium) · Updated 29 September 2026

In brief: the GeForce RTX 4080 is a high-end card from the Ada Lovelace generation (late 2022): 9,728 CUDA cores, 16 GB of GDDR6X on a 256-bit bus, DLSS 3.5 with frame generation, and a 750 W power supply recommended by NVIDIA. In 2026, it averages 117.5 FPS at 1440p and 67.5 FPS at 4K on native Ultra, according to Tom's Hardware, i.e. the level of an RTX 5070 Ti. An RTX 4080 gaming PC is therefore still very comfortable at 1440p and 4K with DLSS. To know whether you should still buy one, see our comparison with the RTX 50.

The RTX 4080, in a nutshell

Launched in November 2022, the RTX 4080 was one of NVIDIA’s first cards from the Ada Lovelace architecture, alongside the RTX 4090. It introduced DLSS 3’s frame generation, which changed how you play the most demanding games. In January 2024, NVIDIA complemented it with a slightly faster RTX 4080 SUPER.

We fitted them into our PCs at the time, like this ASUS TUF Gaming pictured in our workshop. Today, our high-end PCs have moved on to RTX 50, but the RTX 4080 remains a useful benchmark for positioning current cards.

What these figures mean: at 1440p, the RTX 4080 comfortably exceeds 100 FPS average, ideal for a 144 or 165 Hz display. At 4K, it’s around 67 FPS natively, and DLSS allows you to go significantly higher. Ray tracing is still expensive, as with all cards: that’s where DLSS and frame generation make the difference. To understand these technologies, see DLSS 4.5 vs FSR Redstone.

An RTX 4080 gaming PC in 2026: what should you choose?

The RTX 4080 was replaced by the RTX 50 in early 2025: you’ll mainly find it second-hand or in refurbished PCs. Its current equivalent is the RTX 5070 Ti, at the same performance level, with, in addition, DLSS 4 multi-frame generation. For more power at 4K, the RTX 5080 is about 15% ahead. On the AMD side, the RX 9070 XT matches it in rasterisation.

Our full analysis, including the cases where a used 4080 is good value, is in RTX 4080, RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080: should you still buy a 4080?.
