World of Warcraft on console: where are we in 2026?

Rumours, BlizzCon 2026, controller and PC mode for Midnight

By the FlowUP team, gaming PC builder in Genappe (Belgium) · Updated 29 September 2026

In brief: no, World of Warcraft is still not on console at the end of September 2026. Blizzard keeps saying its priority remains PC, even though the topic has been open since Microsoft’s acquisition. The real news comes from the BlizzCon 2026 (12 and 13 September): WoW: Forever, an enhanced version of the original WoW, with a controller mode and support for the Xbox controller, but announced for Windows and macOS only. The Midnight expansion, released on 2 March 2026, is exclusive to PC and Mac as well, with a recommended configuration that has been significantly increased.

WoW on Xbox or PlayStation: what was said

Since 2004, World of Warcraft has been a PC game (and Mac). Blizzard’s arrival at Microsoft reignited the question of a console version, and it comes up again at every BlizzCon. But between official statements and rumours, you have to sort through it.

WoW: Forever and the controller: a step towards console?

This is the most concrete sign to date. WoW: Forever takes the original WoW and enhances it, and Blizzard has shown a full controller mode there, with Xbox controller support announced for its PC launch. For the current version of the game (“Retail”), Blizzard is still talking about many design questions. In other words: playing WoW with a controller is becoming realistic, but on PC.

Hoosgaming was able to try this controller mode:

What PC to play WoW Midnight in 2026?

With Midnight, Blizzard has significantly increased the recommended configuration. WoW remains a game that depends heavily on the processor, especially in raids and in crowded cities.

Our take: for comfortable raiding, aim for a recent 8-core fast CPU (a Ryzen X3D is an excellent choice for CPU-limited games), a graphics card of at least 8 GB and 16 GB of RAM, 32 GB if you keep Discord, a browser and addons open. For the CPU choice, see the best gaming processor in 2026.
