Do the new NVIDIA RTX 5000-series graphics cards really justify the cost?

Should you buy the new NVIDIA RTX 5000-series graphics cards?

The NVIDIA RTX 5000 are finally here, with performance touted as revolutionary. But should you buy a RTX 5000 now, or wait for the arrival of the AMD Radeon RX 9000—like the RX 9070 XT?

With innovations such as DLSS 4, Multi Frame Generation, and a relatively improved raw power, these graphics cards are as compelling as they are thought-provoking.

Best graphics card of 2025, or just a software boost for the RTX 4000?

We take a look at performance, price, and stock availability, and help you choose the best graphics card for your gaming PC.

Technical specifications of the RTX 5000 series 🚀

Built on the Blackwell architecture, the RTX 5000 cards include major innovations:

  • Multi Frame Generation: This technology uses AI to generate multiple intermediate frames, increasing the number of FPS and delivering a smoother gaming experience.
  • DLSS 4: The fourth generation of Deep Learning Super Sampling uses transformation models to improve image quality and performance, with support in more than 75 games at launch.
  • GDDR7 memory: The high-end models, such as the RTX 5090, come with 32 GB of GDDR7, providing increased memory bandwidth for optimal performance.

Performance and comparison with the RTX 4000 series

The first tests suggest that the RTX 5090 delivers performance up to twice that of the RTX 4090, thanks in particular to DLSS 4.

However, some games without DLSS 4 support show more modest gains, in the region of 25 to 35%. ( reddit.com)

The RTX 4000 series, although still powerful, is becoming increasingly scarce on the market—making it harder to get hold of these models.

Price and availability 💰📦

The announced prices for the RTX 5000 cards are as follows:

  • RTX 5090: $1,999
  • RTX 5080: $999
  • RTX 5070 Ti: $749
  • RTX 5070: $549

However, availability remains a major challenge. The initial stock sold out quickly, and the cards are often sold well above their recommended price on the market.

Competition: AMD Radeon RX 9000 series 🟥

AMD is gearing up with the Radeon RX 9000 series, in particular the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 models.

Leaks suggest that the RX 9070 XT could deliver performance comparable to the RTX 5070 Ti, or even higher, while being offered at a more attractive price.

Conclusion: should you invest now? đź›’

If you’re looking for the best performance and you’re prepared to invest, the RTX 5000 series is a solid choice. However, limited availability and prices that are often higher than the MSRP can be obstacles. What’s more, with AMD’s RX 9000 series arriving soon, it could be wise to compare your options before making a decision.
