Gaming PC RTX 4080 in 2026: what should you replace it with?

RTX 5070 Ti, RX 9070 XT or RTX 5080: the current equivalents

By the FlowUP team, gaming PC builder in Genappe (Belgium) · Updated 29 September 2026

In brief: the RTX 4080 is no longer being manufactured: mass production ended at the end of 2023, and the RTX 4080 Super stopped being shipped to manufacturers at the end of 2024, according to industry sources reported by the press. In 2026, you’ll mainly find it second-hand. For a gaming PC on par with an RTX 4080, go for a RTX 5070 Ti (equivalent performance, 16 GB, Multi Frame Generation) or a RX 9070 XT (at the same level in 1440p). To do better, the RTX 5080 beats the 4080 Super by 4% in 1440p and 11% in 4K, according to TechSpot.

The RTX 4080: a model that has reached the end of its run

In 2023, the RTX 4080 was the comfortable 4K card. We built it into our Rift PC from back then, with an i7-13700KF. That’s the one you see in the photo. Since then, the card has disappeared from the production lines, and the Rift name now refers to another configuration in our range.

So if you’re looking for an RTX 4080 gaming PC today, the real question is: which current card delivers the same level, and at what price?

In TechSpot’s comparison across 52 games (May 2026), the RX 9070 XT and the RTX 5070 Ti are 1.4% apart in 1440p (145 vs 143 FPS on average), and the 5070 Ti takes a 4% lead in 4K. ComputerBase summed up the RTX 5070 Ti at launch as “the RTX 4080 with the DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation”.

What the RTX 50 series does better

With equal raw performance, the RTX 50s bring Multi Frame Generation: up to 4 generated frames with DLSS 4, up to 6 with DLSS 4.5 since March 2026, an option reserved for RTX 50. The RTX 40 series keeps classic frame generation, and also benefits from the new DLSS 4.5 upscaling, available on all RTX cards.

And a used RTX 4080?

It’s possible, but check three things: the condition of the 16-pin power connector (no signs of overheating), the remaining warranty (often little or not transferable), and the price compared to a brand-new RTX 5070 Ti, with warranty and Multi Frame Generation support. For 4K, a used 4080 only makes sense if the price difference is clear-cut. And for the power supply that goes with it, see how to choose your power supply.
