RTX 50 Super: where things stand, and should you buy an RTX 5000 in 2026?

Release date, specs based on leaks and our buying advice

By the FlowUP team, gaming PC builder in Genappe (Belgium) · Updated 29 September 2026

In brief: as of 29 September 2026, NVIDIA has announced no RTX 50 Super (RTX 5070 Super, 5070 Ti Super, 5080 Super). In January, the brand confirmed that no new GPUs would be unveiled at CES 2026, and everything else comes from leaks: a delay, then cards that were ready but held back by the 3GB GDDR7 memory price, with at best an announcement at CES 2027. The specs that are circulating: 18GB for the 5070 Super, 24GB for the 5070 Ti Super and 5080 Super. Our advice: if you need a PC now, don’t wait for a lineup that doesn’t officially exist; today’s RTX 5000 remain the reference generation for the end of 2026.

RTX 50 Super: where do things stand?

The “Super” models are improved versions that NVIDIA typically releases about halfway through a generation’s life. For the RTX 40, they arrived just over a year after the first models. So everyone expected RTX 50 Super models to arrive in early 2026. They never did.

The most-cited reason has nothing to do with the cards themselves: it’s the memory. The RTX 50 Super would reportedly use 3GB GDDR7 chips instead of 2GB, and these chips have become very expensive due to demand from AI servers.

The RTX 50 Super specs according to the leaks

Nothing is official, and no prices have leaked. But the rumours converge on one point: the Supers would mainly gain video memory, 50% more than the current models.

Should you wait for the RTX 50 Super?

In our view, no, unless your current PC still meets your needs by a large margin. Three reasons:

  • Nothing has been announced. Waiting for a lineup with no release date means you may end up waiting a year or more.
  • The underlying problem won’t go away. If the Supers are held back by the memory price, they’ll arrive with prices to match. System memory and video memory prices are in fact trending upwards, as we explain in the best time to buy a gaming PC.
  • The next generation is still far away. According to the latest leaks from September 2026, the RTX 60 aren’t expected until 2027, and maybe 2028.

The only case where waiting is defensible: you specifically target more than 16GB of video memory for creation (local AI, 3D, 8K video editing) and your current system still holds up.

Are the RTX 5000 worth it in 2026?

Yes, provided you choose the right model for your use. The generation has become more interesting since launch: the DLSS 4.5 and the Multi Frame Generation up to 6X (March 2026), then the DLSS 5 (September 2026) are reserved for RTX 50 models or make the most of them. We break it down in DLSS 4.5 vs FSR Redstone.

Our take on the lineup: the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB for sensible 1080p and 1440p (prefer it to the 8GB version), the RTX 5070 for 1440p, the RTX 5070 Ti and the RTX 5080 for very high refresh rate 1440p and 4K.

Against the RTX 5000, AMD offers the Radeon RX 9000: the right choice depends on today’s price and your games.

When the lineup was announced, GUILLAUME explained what Multi Frame Generation really changes, and what it doesn’t:

FAQ: RTX 50 Super

When do the RTX 50 Super release?

No official date as of 29 September 2026. The latest leaks suggest an announcement at CES 2027 at the earliest, without any guarantee.

Are the RTX 50 Super cancelled?

NVIDIA has not announced either their release or their cancellation. Several leaks point to a delay linked to the price of 3 GB GDDR7 memory.

How much memory would the RTX 5070 Super have?

18 GB of GDDR7 according to the leaks, versus 12 GB for the RTX 5070. The RTX 5070 Ti Super and 5080 Super would reportedly move to 24 GB.

Is it better to wait for the RTX 60?

Not if you need a PC now: the September 2026 leaks place the RTX 60 in 2027 at the earliest, or even in 2028.

Is the RTX 5070 enough for 1440p?

Yes, that’s its go-to resolution, especially with DLSS. For 4K or 1440p at very high refresh rates, aim for an RTX 5070 Ti or an RTX 5080 instead.
