In brief: Red Dead Redemption launched on PC on 29 October 2024, with the DLC Undead Nightmare. It isn’t a full remaster, but an improved port: native 4K up to 144 Hz, ultrawide monitors, HDR10, DLSS 3.7 with frame generation and FSR 3. The game stays lightweight: the recommended setup calls for a RTX 2070 or an RX 5700 XT. For 4K, a RTX 5070 Ti and DLSS give you plenty of headroom; an RTX 5080 lets you chase higher refresh rates.
Remaster or just a port?
People often talk about “Red Dead Redemption Remaster”, but the PC version isn’t a remake: it’s the 2010 game ported by Double Eleven with Rockstar, based on the PS4 and Switch versions from 2023. The models and textures remain the originals.
What the PC adds on top is everything else: native 4K, frame rates up to 144 Hz, support for 21:9 and 32:9 displays, HDR10, display-distance and shadow settings, real keyboard-and-mouse support, DLSS 3.7 with frame generation and FSR 3. It’s the best way to play Red Dead Redemption today.

What PC for playing in 4K?
Our builder’s take: Red Dead Redemption is a 2010 game, and you can feel it in the requested specs. Almost any recent gaming PC can run it at 1080p or 1440p. 4K at 144 Hz, on the other hand, really calls for a proper graphics card, that’s where DLSS and frame generation make the difference.
If you’re gaming on a large 4K display, aim for an RTX 5070 Ti or an RX 9070 XT, and an RTX 5080 to keep up the high refresh rates. And if you’re unsure about the screen itself, read our guide which gaming monitor to choose in 2026.

For high-frequency 4K, the graphics card makes all the difference.
| Target | Recommended graphics card | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p or 1440p | RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB or RX 9060 XT 16 GB | More than enough |
| 4K at 60 frames/s and up | RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT | With DLSS or FSR |
| High-frequency 4K (up to 144 Hz) | RTX 5080 or better | With DLSS and frame generation |
If Red Dead Redemption makes you want to head back out West, Red Dead Redemption 2 is far more demanding: it’s the one that should guide your choice of graphics card. To compare models, follow our method for choosing your graphics card in 2026.
