According to information from the Chiphell editor and reviewer nApoleon, AMD does not plan to launch the Radeon RX 8800 XT or RX 9800 XT cards. Instead, the company could introduce an entirely new series: the Radeon RX 9000 range. This represents a direct jump from the 7000 series, completely dropping the 8000 series, while adopting a new naming convention.

The assumed new graphics card is the Radeon RX 9070 XT, whose name would match references such as the Radeon 8060S from AMD’s Strix Halo series. However, no official confirmation about RDNA4 GPUs has been provided yet.

This week, an AMD motherboard partner mentioned launches planned for January, citing the GeForce 50 and Radeon 90 series. Although the partner confirmed the “90” designation for Radeon, no further details were shared.

Two leaks—one from Chiphell and other indirect information—strengthen the idea of a naming change for RDNA4 GPUs. Yet there is also evidence that the Radeon RX 8000 series was originally planned. This suggests that AMD may have changed strategy at the last minute, as happened with Ryzen processors (moving from the AI 100 series to the 300 series in a short space of time).
