Rumours about AMD RDNA4: top-tier rasterisation performance and improved ray tracing
The RX 8000 series is drawing attention in the earliest rumours.
Two reliable sources from the Chiphell forums have shared information regarding the potential performance of the next generation of AMD Radeon graphics cards.
According to the user “zhangzhonghao”, the Navi 48-based model, potentially called the Radeon RX 8800 XT (although the name has not yet been confirmed), could take on the RTX 4080 in terms of ray tracing and rasterisation performance.
These performances would be particularly noticeable in the game Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, where the card could deliver up to 45% better ray tracing performance than the RX 7900 XTX, which is currently the flagship model in the RDNA3 lineup.

Another informant, “wjm47196”, also cites the RX 7900 XT as a reference point, without specifying whether this refers to ray tracing performance or rasterisation.
Another rumour suggests that the RX 8800 XT could consume 25% less power than the RX 7900 XTX, which would work out to roughly 270 W.
By way of comparison, the power consumption of the RX 7900 XTX and the RTX 4080 is 360 W and 305 W respectively.
The RX 8800 XT cards could enter mass production as early as mid-December, pointing to a launch around mid-January. Indeed, it usually takes about a month for GPUs produced in large quantities to be distributed to partners.
AMD would be preparing three models for the Navi 4X family
The flagship model, the RX 8800 XT, could be equipped with 4,096 cores and 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. This model would be based on the Navi 48 GPU, while the Navi 44 could power the RX 8600 series and laptop-specific variants.
These early rumours set the bar very high for AMD, and if they prove to be true, the RX 8800 series could well reshape the landscape of mid-range and high-end graphics cards.
