You might be wondering why that sparked such an uproar. 

First, the PSN has a security track record that’s far from reassuring, with several major hacking incidents in the past. 

Second, the PSN isn’t universally accessible, meaning players in some countries couldn’t even launch Helldivers 2 despite having bought it.
