The GeForce RTX 4060 launched in June 2023 for $299 to replace the RTX 3060. In 2026, it’s still a decent card for playing in 1080p, but the RTX 5060 has replaced it with 22% higher performance for the same launch price. Here’s our take on the RTX 4060 today: specs, measured performance, the limits of its 8GB, and the best option if you’re buying now.
In short
- Ada Lovelace architecture, 3,072 CUDA cores, 8GB of GDDR6 and just 115W.
- 15% faster than the RTX 3060 in 1080p and 9% in 1440p (TechSpot, June 2023, 15 games).
- The RTX 5060 is 22% better in 1080p and 27% better in 1440p (TechSpot, May 2025), with DLSS 4 on top.
- There is no RTX 4060 12GB: the desktop version only has 8GB. It’s the RTX 3060 that exists in 12GB.
- Our advice: if you already have a RTX 4060, keep it for 1080p; if you’re buying a PC in 2026, get a RTX 5060.

Compact and understated, the RTX 4060 fits into almost any case.
RTX 4060 gaming performance
The RTX 4060 is a 1080p card: TechSpot measures it at 15% ahead of the RTX 3060 in this resolution, and 9% in 1440p, across 15 games with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D (test dated 28 June 2023). It matches AMD’s Radeon RX 7600 while consuming less power.

RTX 4060 vs 3060
Compared to the RTX 3060, it gains 15% in 1080p and uses around 20% less power across the PC, according to TechSpot. The RTX 3060 has one advantage: its 12GB version is more comfortable when a game demands lots of video memory.

In competitive gaming at 1080p, the RTX 4060 still holds up.
DLSS 3 and ray tracing on RTX 4060
The RTX 4060 handles DLSS 3 and its frame generation, which adds an AI-calculated frame between two rendered frames. That’s what allows it to display ray tracing in 1080p in supported games.

The RTX 5060 goes further with DLSS 4 and multi-frame generation, reserved for RTX 50. To understand these technologies, read our article DLSS 4.5 vs FSR Redstone.

RTX 4060 8GB: is the memory enough in 2026?
At 1080p, 8GB is enough in the vast majority of games, as long as you lower textures by one step in the newest titles. At 1440p on ultra, it becomes just enough. Our guide 8GB, 12GB or 16GB of VRAM details which games are affected.
RTX 4060 vs 5060: what changed
The RTX 5060, launched in May 2025 at the same $299 launch price, is 22% faster in 1080p and 27% faster in 1440p according to TechSpot. It moves to GDDR7 and adds the multi-frame generation from DLSS 4.

RTX 4060 review: should you still buy it?
If you already have a RTX 4060, there’s no rush: it runs games at 1080p, especially with DLSS. For a purchase in 2026, the RTX 5060 offers more for the same budget, and that’s the one we’re putting together.
The workshop’s verdict
A brand-new RTX 4060 gaming PC no longer makes sense compared to an RTX 5060 PC: 22% more performance and DLSS 4, with power consumption close to it. With a small budget, the RTX 5050 in the Corvus PC is the entry-level option of the current generation.
