RTX 5070 Ti: 16GB of GDDR7 VRAM—will that be enough in 2026?

By the FlowUP team, gaming PC builder in Genappe (Belgium) · Updated 29 September 2026

In brief: the RTX 5070 Ti has 16GB of GDDR7 VRAM on a 256-bit bus, i.e. 896GB/s of bandwidth, just like the RTX 5080. The standard RTX 5070 sticks to 12GB on a 192-bit bus (672GB/s). In 2026, 16GB is enough for all games at 1440p, including with ray tracing, and for 4K with DLSS. The “Super” versions rumoured to come with 24GB have still not launched by the end of September 2026.

How much VRAM does the RTX 5070 Ti have?

The GeForce RTX 5070 Ti comes with 16GB of GDDR7 video memory at 28Gbps, connected to the graphics processor via a 256-bit bus. Result: 896GB/s of bandwidth, exactly the same figure as the RTX 5080 and one-third more than the RTX 5070.

VRAM (Video RAM) is the dedicated memory on the graphics card. It stores textures, geometry, ray tracing data and the images currently being processed. When it’s full, the card has to fetch data from your PC’s RAM instead, much slower: frame rates drop and stutter appears.

The RTX 5070 Ti uses the same GB203 chip as the RTX 5080, but with fewer active units. That’s what explains its almost identical memory bandwidth: in VRAM-hungry games, the gap versus its bigger sibling stays limited.

16GB of VRAM, is that enough in 2026?

Yes, for the overwhelming majority of players. Here’s how the two cards perform, by resolution:

ResolutionRTX 5070 (12GB)RTX 5070 Ti (16GB)
1080pNo issuesNo issues, overkill card
1440pVery good, limit reached in some demanding ray tracing titlesVery good, including with ray tracing
4KPossible with DLSS, keep an eye on texture settingsGood with DLSS, comfortable memory headroom
4K + path tracingNot recommendedPlayable with DLSS and frame generation, without headroom

FlowUP synthesis based on Tom’s Hardware’s GPU ranking (updated 24 June 2026).

In its 2026 ranking, Tom’s Hardware recommends the RTX 5070 Ti, along with the RX 9070 XT, for the best experience in 1440p with ray tracing. The site also notes that 12GB cards become a handicap at 1440p with ray tracing in the heaviest games, whereas 16GB models prevent performance from collapsing in 4K.

Our take: 12GB is still fine for gaming, while 16GB is the right level to keep a card for four or five years. High-resolution textures, path tracing and frame generation all consume memory, and games aren’t going to get more frugal.

A 16GB card leaves some headroom for games of the coming years.

Mathis and Gauthier tested the RTX 5070 Ti on the day it launched. Their video remains useful to gauge its performance compared with the previous generation:

RTX 5070 or RTX 5070 Ti: which should you choose?

Choose the RTX 5070 if you play at 1440p in competitive or not-too-demanding games, and if budget matters. Its 12GB gets the job done, especially with DLSS enabled.

Choose the RTX 5070 Ti if you’re targeting high-refresh 1440p with ray tracing, 4K with DLSS, or if you also do video editing and 3D. The extra 4GB of VRAM, the 46% more CUDA cores and the wider bandwidth make a real difference over time.

And the RTX 5070 Ti Super with 24GB?

Rumours have been circulating since 2025 about RTX 50 “Super” cards with more memory: 24 GB for the RTX 5070 Ti Super and RTX 5080 Super, 18 GB for the RTX 5070 Super, thanks to 3 GB GDDR7 chips. In January 2026, TweakTown reported that NVIDIA had delayed these cards with no set date due to a surge in the price of memory. In June 2026, a leaker claimed they were planned again for 2026.

As of 29 September 2026, NVIDIA has not announced anything officially. Waiting for a card that doesn’t exist yet only makes sense if you’re not in a hurry: the current RTX 5070 Ti and its 16 GB remain the benchmark for sensible high-end.

FAQ: the VRAM of the RTX 5070 Ti

How much VRAM does the RTX 5070 Ti have?

16 GB of GDDR7 at 28 Gbit/s, on a 256-bit bus, for 896 GB/s bandwidth.

How much VRAM does the RTX 5070 have?

12 GB of GDDR7 on a 192-bit bus, for 672 GB/s bandwidth.

Is 16 GB of VRAM enough for 4K?

Yes in most games, especially with DLSS, which renders the image at a lower resolution. 4K path tracing remains the toughest scenario, even with 16 GB.

Does the RTX 5070 Ti have as much VRAM as the RTX 5080?

Yes: 16 GB of GDDR7 on a 256-bit bus for both. The RTX 5080 uses slightly faster memory (960 GB/s vs 896 GB/s) and has more CUDA cores.

Is there an RTX 5070 Ti with 24 GB?

Not to date. A 24 GB RTX 5070 Ti Super has been in the rumours since 2025, but NVIDIA had not announced it as of 29 September 2026.

What power supply for an RTX 5070 Ti?

NVIDIA recommends a 750 W power supply for the full PC. The card consumes up to 300 W.
