RTX 4060 Ti: release, specs, and is it still worth it in 2026?

By the FlowUP team, gaming PC builder in Genappe (Belgium) · Updated 28 September 2026

In brief: the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is a mid-range graphics card released on 24 May 2023 for $399 (8GB), followed by a 16GB version for $499. In 2026, it’s still decent for 1080p, but it’s been replaced by the RTX 5060 Ti (April 2025, $379 for 8GB and $429 for 16GB), which is faster, uses GDDR7, and comes with DLSS 4 and its multiple image generation. Brand new, go for a 5060 Ti instead; second-hand, a 4060 Ti 16GB at a good price can still hold its own.

RTX 4060 Ti: what to remember in 2026

When it launched, the RTX 4060 Ti disappointed some players: only a little faster than the RTX 3060 Ti in certain games, a 128-bit memory bus, and just 8GB of video memory on the base model. Its real strength was the DLSS 3 with image generation, along with relatively modest power consumption.

Three years later, the question is no longer "should you buy it at launch?" but "is it still worth it versus the RTX 5060 Ti?". The short answer: brand new, rarely; second-hand, sometimes.

What gaming performance does the RTX 4060 Ti deliver?

The RTX 4060 Ti is a 1080p card: it runs the vast majority of games at high settings there, and competitive titles well beyond 144 frames per second. At 1440p, it’s still playable with DLSS, but the 8GB version quickly hits its video memory limit in newer, heavy games.

Forget the 4K instead: unlike what was reported at launch, that isn’t its territory. Our FrenchHardware channel tested it at launch and explains why it split opinions:

RTX 4060 Ti or RTX 5060 Ti in 2026?

  • Brand new: the RTX 5060 Ti launches cheaper and is faster, with GDDR7 and DLSS 4. There’s no reason left to prefer a brand-new 4060 Ti.
  • Second-hand: a well-kept 4060 Ti 16GB can be a good deal for 1080p and 1440p with DLSS, provided its price is clearly lower than that of a brand-new 5060 Ti.
  • 8 or 16GB: in both cases, choose 16GB if you play at 1440p or keep your card for a long time.

On 24 May 2023 for the 8GB version, for $399. The 16GB version followed in July 2023, for $499.

Is the RTX 4060 Ti still worth it in 2026?

Brand new, no: the RTX 5060 Ti is faster and launched cheaper. Second-hand, a 16GB version at a good price is still interesting for 1080p and 1440p.

What’s the difference between the RTX 4060 Ti and the RTX 5060 Ti?

The 5060 Ti moves to the Blackwell architecture, GDDR7 memory, PCIe 5.0, and DLSS 4 with multiple image generation, for higher performance.
