How to make the most of Steam sales
The most effective is the wish list. Add the games you’re interested in: Steam sends you an email as soon as one of them goes on sale. Since there are no flash promotions anymore, you don’t need to check back every day: the first-day price is the right one.
To see whether a discount is really worth it, look at a game’s price history on SteamDB. Many games return to the same lowest price during each major sale: if that’s the case, you know you won’t do better by waiting.
During Steam sales, also check that your PC can run the games you’re buying.
Check that your PC keeps up
Buying a big game on sale is pointless if it runs poorly. Before you confirm your cart, compare the required configuration with that of your PC. Our guides spell out the real requirements for the most in-demand games:
- Cyberpunk 2077: what PC do you need to play it in 2026
- Black Myth: Wukong: what PC do you need to play
- Forza Horizon 6 and Forza Horizon 5: what PC
- Elden Ring and its DLCs
And to know what to buy, our selection of the best PC games of 2026 is a good place to start.
A PC ready for your game library
If your PC is starting to fall behind, our models run all the latest games. Two good starting points:
Rift PC: RX 9060 XT 16GB
Ryzen 5 7500F or 7500X3D, Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB and DDR5: recent games in 1080p and 1440p.
Shadow V2 PC: RX 9070 XT
Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB and Ryzen 7 9800X3D: high-frequency 1440p and 4K with upscaling.
