MSI Red Storm gaming PC: configuration, performance and successor in 2026

RTX 4070 and Ryzen 5 5600 in collaboration with MSI

By the FlowUP team, gaming PC builder in Genappe (Belgium) · Updated 30 September 2026

In brief: the Red Storm is a FlowUP gaming PC built in collaboration with MSI and launched in October 2023, featuring a MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ventus 3X, an AMD Ryzen 5 5600, 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD. It’s no longer in the range. In 2026, it still handles 1440p very comfortably thanks to DLSS. For a new PC with the same spirit, our Powered by MSI PCs and the Cheetoh with RTX 5070 take over.

The Red Storm PC, what was it?

The Red Storm was the PC we built with MSI in autumn 2023 to play in 1440p without blowing the budget. The idea: a high-end graphics card from the time, the RTX 4070, paired with a reasonable, but more than sufficient for gaming, processor, the Ryzen 5 5600, plus plenty of memory for streaming and editing.

Its red-and-black look, with matching lighting, fit right into the MSI universe. It was also one of our first setups built around a partner, an approach we’ve kept ever since with our Powered by MSI PCs.

What’s the Red Storm worth in 2026?

Our assembler’s opinion: it’s still a good PC for 1440p. The RTX 4070 benefits from DLSS 4 for upscaling and classic frame generation, and its 12 GB of video memory are enough for this resolution. As for the 32 GB of RAM, they haven’t aged a day.

The weak point is the Ryzen 5 5600: it’s fine, but it can limit the graphics card in competitive games at very high refresh rates. Good news: the AM4 platform supports a Ryzen 7 5700X3D or 5800X3D, an easy upgrade that gives a real boost in games. Which FlowUP PC replaces the Red Storm?

MSI remains one of our main partners. To get the spirit of the Red Storm back, the Ruby Powered by MSI picks up the concept of a PC built around MSI components, with an RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB, close to an RTX 4070 in 1440p (73.4 vs 77.8 frames per second according to Tom’s Hardware). To go even further, the Cheetoh moves up to the RTX 5070, about 24% faster than the RTX 4070 in 1440p, and the Abyssin to the RTX 5070 Ti, with MSI motherboard and MSI watercooling.
