In brief: the ASUS PC Evangelion isn’t a ready-made PC you can just buy, it’s a collection of parts ROG x EVANGELION EVA-02 Edition that ASUS announced on 22 July 2023, in the red and orange colours of Asuka and the EVA-02: ROG Hyperion case, Maximus Z790 Hero motherboard, RTX 4090 ROG Strix, Ryujin III liquid cooling, Thor PSU, plus a keyboard, mouse and mouse mat. We assembled a complete PC with these parts in October 2023: here’s the full spec, in photos, and what to take away from it in 2026.
ROG x EVANGELION: what are we talking about?
This isn’t the first time ASUS has dressed its hardware in the colours of Hideaki Anno’s cult series. In 2022, the brand launched a first collection inspired by the EVA-01, Shinji’s purple-and-green unit. In July 2023, place to the EVA-02 of Asuka, with a red-and-orange palette, official illustrations, and little nods scattered all over the PC.
Key point: the EVA-02 collection consists of parts sold separately. That’s why you’ll hear talk of a “PC Evangelion” for a system built with these components, like the one we assembled in the workshop, which you can see in all the photos in this article.

Our build: the PC Evangelion configuration
For our machine, we paired the EVA-02 parts with an Core i9-14900KF, Intel’s high-end model at the time, released just a few days before the build. Around it: the ROG Strix RTX 4090 EVA-02, the Maximus Z790 Hero EVA-02, the Ryujin III EVA-02, DDR5 memory, and a 2 TB SSD, all inside the Hyperion EVA-02.
During assembly, two things stand out. First, the size: the Hyperion is a real full tower, and the RTX 4090 EVA-02 takes up 3.5 slots. Next, the attention to detail: the Ryujin III display shows Asuka, the motherboard lighting alternates between Asuka and the EVA-02, and the EVA-02 ©khara logo appears even on the case itself.

The 3.5-inch screen on the Ryujin III is the detail that everyone notices first. It can display Asuka and EVA-02 animations, or the CPU temperatures. With an i9-14900KF, 360 mm liquid cooling isn’t a luxury: this processor gets hot under full load.
On an Intel 13th- or 14th-gen platform, also remember to update the BIOS for the Intel microcode : this is essential since 2024 for the stability of these processors.

EVA-02 details in photos
The Maximus Z790 Hero EVA-02 takes the base of the standard Z790 Hero, with an “AT Field” pattern around the socket and red markings. It’s a high-end motherboard: a robust power stage, Thunderbolt 4, Wi‑Fi 6E, and an expansion card for a PCIe 5.0 SSD.
Aesthetically, the yellow panels with NERV-style signage and the “02” numbers appear on the motherboard just as they do on the case.

Even the case carries the official signature: the EVA-02 ©khara logo, named after Hideaki Anno’s studio. It’s these details that make the difference versus a simple red PC.
Tom’s Hardware summed it up well in the announcement: the EVA-02 parts stand out from the classic ROG versions by their look, not their performance. You’re paying for the design and the rarity.

An Evangelion PC in 2026: good idea?
Three years after its release, the EVA-02 collection remains, to our knowledge, the last ASUS x Evangelion collaboration. We haven’t found any announcement of a new collection in 2024, 2025 or 2026. These parts date from 2023: check their availability case by case before you dive in.
- Highlights: a unique, official design; an RTX 4090 that remains a high-end card for 4K; and ROG parts of very good quality.
- Limitations: the LGA1700 platform won’t welcome any new processors anymore, the RTX 4090 doesn’t support Multi Frame Generation reserved for RTX 50, and the extra cost is purely aesthetic.
If it’s the Evangelion universe that attracts you, the collection remains a collector’s item. If it’s performance you’re after, a recent setup will do just as well for less money. Our guides choose your PC case and best gaming PC in 2026 for your budget will help you see clearly.
