RX 9060 XT: review, test and showdown with the RTX 5060 Ti in 2026

1080p and 1440p performance, 8GB or 16GB version, power supply and ready-to-play RX 9060 XT gaming PC

By the FlowUP team, gaming PC builder in Genappe (Belgium) · Updated 19 October 2026

In short:

  • The RX 9060 XT 16GB is the most cost-effective graphics card for high settings 1080p and 1440p: 70 FPS average at native 1440p across 18 games in TechSpot’s test.
  • Against the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, it’s only 1% behind at 1440p, but with a lower launch price.
  • Against the RTX 5060, it’s about 30% faster, with twice as much video memory.
  • Our advice: go for the 16GB version, not the 8GB.

The RX 9060 XT from AMD has everyone agreeing on one point: if you want to play at 1440p without aiming at the high-end, this is the card that gives you the most for the money. Released on 5 June 2025, it remains in 2026 the entry-level “serious” benchmark, the one that doesn’t force you to compromise on textures in recent games.

At the workshop, it’s the card we build into the PC Rift, tested in video by Mathis and Gauthier. Here’s what it really delivers, numbers included, and how it stacks up against the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti.

What is the RX 9060 XT worth in 2026?

The RX 9060 XT 16GB is a mid-range AMD graphics card, based on the RDNA 4 architecture, designed for high settings 1080p and 1440p. In TechSpot’s test, it delivers 70 FPS average at native 1440p across 18 games, just 1% behind the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB.

What makes it interesting:

  • 16GB of video memory: headroom for high-texture settings in games released in 2025 and 2026.
  • FSR 4: AMD’s AI-based upscaling, available for Radeon RX 9000 only, adding frames per second without the blur of older versions.
  • Only 160 W: AMD says a 450 W PSU is enough, no need to change the power supply for a reasonable build.
  • The right price: at launch pricing, TechSpot rates it as 17% more cost-effective per frame than the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB.

Its only real drawback is heavy ray tracing, where the RTX 5060 Ti retains the edge. In those games, enable FSR 4 and lower ray tracing by one step: the image stays clean and the smoothness returns. To understand upscaling in full, read our comparison of DLSS and FSR.

On Google, the question “9060 XT vs 5060 Ti” keeps coming up. Our answer in one line: if you mostly play at 1440p without heavy ray tracing, the RX 9060 XT delivers the same frames per second for less; if ray tracing and DLSS matter a lot to you, the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is worth the difference. Our article RTX 5060 or RTX 5060 Ti goes into the NVIDIA matchup.

And how does it stack up against the RTX 5060? The RX 9060 XT vs RTX 5060 showdown is clearer: roughly 30% higher performance and double the video memory for the Radeon, for $50 more at launch according to TechSpot. We took stock of NVIDIA’s card in our review of the RTX 5060.

RX 9060 XT or RTX 5060 Ti: at 1440p, the difference is within the margin of error.

RX 9060 XT 8GB or 16GB: which version should you get?

Get the RX 9060 XT 16GB. The 8GB version cost $50 less at launch, but 8GB of video memory is already saturated in several recent games with high textures, and TechSpot advises against it.

  • 16GB: the right choice for 1440p, high textures, and keeping the card for several years.
  • 8GB: only for a very tight budget and esports games at 1080p.

On our pages, the card is called RX 9060 XT 16GB. On French price comparison sites, you’ll also see it written as RX 9060 XT 16 Go (Go is the French abbreviation for GB): it’s the same card. To find out how much video memory you need depending on your screen, read our VRAM guide.

Which processor and power supply for an RX 9060 XT?

A recent 6-core CPU like the Ryzen 5 7500F is enough to get the most out of an RX 9060 XT at 1080p and 1440p. For the power supply, AMD specifies a minimum of 450 W: a quality unit rated at 550 to 650 W leaves room for the future.

  • Processor: Ryzen 5 7500F or Core i5-14400F for a balanced PC; the Ryzen 5 7500X3D, available as an option on the PC Rift, helps in games that benefit from a large cache.
  • RAM: 16GB DDR5 for gaming, 32GB if you stream or edit video.
  • Power supply: minimum 450 W according to AMD, one 8-pin connector. Our guide for choosing your power supply explains how to calculate the right wattage.

FAQ RX 9060 XT

9060 XT vs 5060 Ti: which is faster?

In traditional games, they’re almost evenly matched at 1440p (1% difference, according to TechSpot), and the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is 6% ahead at 1080p. In ray tracing, the RTX 5060 Ti is about 20% faster. At launch price, the RX 9060 XT delivers a 17% better price-per-image ratio.

Is the RX 9060 XT any good for gaming at 1440p?

Yes. With an average of 70 FPS at native 1440p across 18 games (TechSpot) and 16GB of video memory, it runs recent games on high settings. FSR 4 lets you go even further in the heaviest titles.

What power supply for an RX 9060 XT?

AMD recommends a minimum of 450 W for a PC with an RX 9060 XT, which uses 160 W in typical usage. A certified 80 Plus unit rated at 550 to 650 W leaves room for a more power-hungry processor or a future graphics card.

Is the RX 9060 XT 8GB worth it?

Only if you have a very tight budget and you play esports games at 1080p. For everything else, choose the 16GB version: recent games overshoot 8GB of video memory already with high textures, and TechSpot advises avoiding the 8GB.

Does the RX 9060 XT handle ray tracing?

Yes. Its 32 RDNA 4 ray accelerators make it far more comfortable than older Radeon cards: 65 FPS average in the tested games with ray tracing enabled in TechSpot’s test. The RTX 5060 Ti remains around 20% ahead in this area.
