GTA 6 on PC: release date and what PC setup you need to play?

By the FlowUP team, gaming PC builder in Genappe (Belgium) · Updated 20 October 2026

In brief: GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with pre-orders now open and pre-loading starting from 12 November. As of 20 October 2026, Rockstar has not yet announced the GTA 6 PC version, but the good news is already here: several sources point to a PC release in the first quarter of 2027, far earlier than the 19 months of waiting for GTA V. In other words, this is the moment to prepare your machine. Our estimated setup: RTX 5060 at 1080p, RTX 5070 or RX 9070 XT at 1440p, RTX 5080 at 4K, with 32 GB of RAM and an NVMe SSD.

On 15 October, Rockstar released the launch trailer for GTA 6. Vice City under the rain, the neon of Ocean Drive, streets packed with NPCs—everything captured on PS5. In the workshop, we watched it twice, and the question came up straight away: what kind of setup will GTA 6 need on PC the day the game lands on our machines?

Rockstar hasn’t published any specs yet, but we’re not starting from scratch. The official GTA V Enhanced requirements on PC, the console generation they’re targeting, and today’s graphics cards give us a solid framework. And the timing works in favour of PC players: the GTA 6 on PC version is shaping up much faster than for GTA V. This article tells you what’s confirmed, what’s still an estimate, and which gaming PC to choose to be ready on launch day. It will be updated with every new announcement.

GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026, but not on PC yet

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Thursday 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders are open since June, in the Standard or Ultimate Edition, and the digital versions start pre-loading from 12 November. A detail that made people bristle: the physical box doesn’t contain a disc, only a download code.

On the official game page, the PC platform doesn’t appear yet. If you’re looking for a GTA 6 PC setup, you’re already ahead of the game, and that’s exactly what we’re going to prepare here.

The launch trailer, watch it before choosing your graphics card

Before we talk components, watch these two minutes. Not just for the fun (well, not only): the crowd density, the display distance on the highway, reflections on wet asphalt, and interiors lit in real time give you a very accurate idea of what a PC will have to handle. Everything is captured on PS5, a console released at the end of 2020. On PC, the goal will be to do better: more FPS, more detail, a higher resolution.

GTA 6 PC release date: why the wait will be shorter than expected

Rockstar hasn’t given a date yet, but all the signals point in the same direction. Officially, at Take-Two’s shareholder meeting on 17 September 2026, CEO Strauss Zelnick reiterated that the PC is becoming « increasingly important » for the group. In the press, several outlets report—based on financial sources and people close to the studio—that a PC release is targeted between January and March 2027, i.e. just a few months after the consoles. This isn’t yet an announcement, but it’s a clear shift compared with previous Rockstar games. The full timeline is in our article when does GTA 6 come out :

GameConsole releasePC releaseGap
GTA V17 September 201314 April 201519 months
Red Dead Redemption 226 October 20185 November 201912 months
GTA 619 November 2026scheduled for early 2027 according to the press, not confirmeda few months?

The PC market has changed since 2013: it weighs much more for Take-Two, and a fast port brings in more than a console exclusive that drags on forever. If the first quarter of 2027 is confirmed, GTA 6 on PC will arrive in less than six months. Even in the slowest scenario—Red Dead Redemption 2—we’re talking about the end of 2027.

Our workshop take: it’s the right time to build or buy a balanced system. You’ll be able to use it right now for Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 6 or Red Dead Redemption 2, and it will be ready when Vice City lands on PC.

GTA 6 system requirements: why it will need a real gaming PC

The most honest starting point is GTA V Enhanced, the modernised version released on PC in March 2025 with ray tracing and DirectStorage. Rockstar officially asks for this:

GTA V EnhancedMinimumRecommended
SystemWindows 10 (build 1909 or later)Windows 11
ProcessorIntel Core i7-4770 / AMD FX-9590Intel Core i5-9600K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600
Memory8 GB16 GB dual-channel
Graphics cardGTX 1630 4 GB / RX 6400 4 GBRTX 3060 8 GB / RX 6600 XT 8 GB
StorageSSD required, 105 GB105 GB, DirectStorage compatible

GTA 6 is designed for the PS5 generation: a denser world, far more crowds, and real-time lighting everywhere. In the workshop, we assume you’ll need at least one step above GTA V Enhanced’s recommended settings, and two steps if you’re targeting ray tracing at 1440p. An SSD is already mandatory on GTA V Enhanced (105 GB), and it will be mandatory on GTA 6, too. To understand what this extra cost really buys you, our article which GPU to buy in 2026 despite rising prices sorts it out.

A GeForce RTX 5070 built in our workshop: the tier we’re targeting for GTA 6 in 1440p.

GTA 6 minimum requirements on PC: our estimate

If your goal is to run GTA 6 on PC in 1080p with low settings and a target of 60 FPS, here is our minimum GTA 6 setup, estimated:

  • System: Windows 11 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-12400F or AMD Ryzen 5 5600
  • Graphics card: GeForce RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 6700 XT
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Storage: NVMe SSD with 150 to 200 GB free

This baseline is a little above GTA V Enhanced’s recommended configuration. It will run the game, but if you buy a PC today, don’t aim for this tier: a RTX 3060 is more than five years old, and you’ll want to replace it even before GTA 6 arrives on PC. The real entry point is the next section.

The minimum will run the game; comfort starts one step up.

GTA 6 PC requirements by resolution: 1080p, 1440p or 4K?

This is the question we’re asked most often, and the answer depends first on your screen. A GTA 6 PC build designed for 1080p has nothing to do with a machine intended for 4K. Here’s our summary, then the details with the FlowUP PCs tailored to each performance tier.

In 1080p: the RTX 5060 is enough, and it stays affordable

To play GTA 6 in 1080p with good settings, the GeForce RTX 5060 8GB is our pick. DLSS 4 and image generation give it some extra headroom that older cards don’t have. Its 8GB of VRAM will limit ultra textures in the heaviest games; dropping textures by one step solves the issue without the image suffering in 1080p.

In 1440p: RTX 5070 or RX 9070 XT, the real good deal

1440p is the format we recommend most often in-store: the image is clearly sharper than at 1080p, and it doesn’t require a very high-end graphics card. Two cards stand out here. The GeForce RTX 5070 12GB, with DLSS 4, and the Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB, stronger in rasterisation and more comfortable when it comes to VRAM. Our comparison RTX 5070 vs RX 9070 details the measured differences game by game.

In 4K: the RTX 5080, and nothing below

Playing GTA 6 in 4K means four times as many pixels as in 1080p. At this resolution, the graphics card does basically everything. We don’t recommend dropping below a GeForce RTX 5080 16GB if you want to keep high settings and maintain a stable level of smoothness. The CPU matters less, but a Ryzen 5 7500X3D or a 9800X3D helps prevent stutter in the dense streets of Vice City. If you’re unsure about the graphics card for GTA 6 at this level, the RTX 5080 remains our answer.

16GB or 32GB of RAM, and the SSD: the two things we won’t compromise on

Rockstar recommends 16GB in dual-channel for GTA V Enhanced. For GTA 6, we go up to 32GB without hesitation: the game, Windows, Discord and an open browser chew through 16GB fast, and the PCs we assemble for 1440p and 4K—from Shadow V2 to Taro—already come with 32GB of DDR5. Make sure, above all, that the RAM sticks are installed in pairs: in single-channel you lose FPS for no reason. Our guide how to choose your RAM in 2026 explains dual-channel in detail.

Storage is a settled debate. GTA V Enhanced requires an SSD and asks for DirectStorage for its recommended configuration. A 1TB NVMe SSD is the reasonable baseline; go for 2TB if you install several big games alongside it. Our guide for choosing your SSD in 2026 explains what changes between PCIe 4.0 and 5.0.

Should you buy a gaming PC now for GTA 6?

Yes, and for a simple reason: if the PC version lands at the start of 2027, it’ll be here within a few months—and a release of that calibre always drives demand for graphics cards up. Buying now means choosing your setup calmly, breaking it in with 2026 games, and having it ready on launch day. Our advice—the one we give at the counter—is a well-balanced 1440p machine today: the best price-to-peace-of-mind ratio for Vice City. To lay the groundwork, reread how to choose your gaming PC configuration in 2026.

FAQ: GTA 6 PC specs, your questions

Does the GTA VI PC version exist officially?

Not yet. As of 20 October 2026, Rockstar announces GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November 2026, and the launch trailer is captured on PS5. The PC version isn’t listed yet, but everything points to it following soon.

When will GTA 6 be on PC?

The release date for GTA 6 PC is not official yet. Several media outlets report a targeted release in Q1 2027, much earlier than for GTA V (19 months after the console) or Red Dead Redemption 2 (12 months). Rockstar has not yet confirmed: we’ll update this answer as soon as it’s announced.

What PC setup for GTA 6 in 1080p?

A Ryzen 5 5600 or a Core i5-13400F, a GeForce RTX 5060 or a Radeon RX 9060 XT, 16 GB of RAM and an NVMe SSD, just like in our Banger PC.

Will 16GB of RAM be enough for GTA 6?

Probably, to get started. For playing calmly with Discord and a browser open, 32 GB in dual channel. Rockstar already recommends 16 GB in dual channel for GTA V Enhanced.

Will an SSD be necessary for GTA 6?

Everything points to it. GTA V Enhanced already requires it, with DirectStorage in its recommended configuration. Plan for a minimum 1 TB NVMe.

Which graphics card should you target for GTA 6?

RTX 5060 or RX 9060 XT at 1080p, RTX 5070 or RX 9070 XT at 1440p, RTX 5080 at 4K. This is our estimated GTA 6 build, to be confirmed when Rockstar publishes the official specs.

Should you wait for Rockstar’s official configuration?

For a sure answer, yes. For buying a gaming PC, no: if the PC version arrives in early 2027, waiting for the official configuration leaves too little time to choose, order and get your machine up and running. A recent, well-balanced setup will be ready when the time comes.
