RX 9070 XT gaming PC: which one to choose in 2026 for 1440p and 4K?

The RX 9070 XT plays in the same league as the RTX 5070 Ti for less money. Processor, power supply, case: here’s how to put together a RX 9070 XT gaming PC in the workshop—and which one we recommend.

By the FlowUP team, gaming PC builder in Genappe (Belgium) · Updated 27 October 2026

In short:

  • The Radeon RX 9070 XT: 16GB of GDDR6, 64 compute units RDNA 4, 304W, 750W power supply recommended by AMD.
  • In games: an average of 81 FPS in 4K across 52 games, versus 84 FPS for an RTX 5070 Ti (TechSpot, May 2026). In 1440p, the gap drops to about 1%.
  • The right CPU: a Ryzen 5 7600 is enough for 1440p; a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D for very high framerates.
  • Our recommendation: an RX 9070 XT gaming PC is the best price-to-FPS option for a 1440p screen at 144 Hz and up, and it handles 4K with FSR 4.

There comes a moment, in the workshop, when the awkward question gets asked: “do you want the green logo, or do you want the frames per second?” For a 1440p monitor, the answer we hear most often in 2026 comes down to four digits: 9070 XT.

We’ve been building RX 9070 XT gaming PCs since the card launched, with a Ryzen 5, with a Ryzen X3D and even with an Core i7. This guide brings together what we learned along the way: the figures measured by the press, the CPU you should pair with it, the power supply you shouldn’t underestimate, and the four configurations we genuinely recommend.

RX 9070 XT: what the card is really worth in games

The Radeon RX 9070 XT is AMD’s flagship card from the RDNA 4 generation: 16GB of GDDR6 on a 256-bit bus, 64 compute units, a boost up to 2,970 MHz and power consumption of 304W. It brings FSR 4, AMD’s new upscaling feature, and ray tracing that’s clearly more solid than that of the RX 7000.

Translated into workshop language: in 1440p, the RX 9070 XT is neck-and-neck with an RTX 5070 Ti, which cost $150 more at launch. In 4K, it still trails by just 3 frames on average. Where NVIDIA still has the edge is in the pushed path tracing (Cyberpunk in Overdrive mode, Doom: The Dark Ages in path tracing); in those specific cases, FSR 4 and ray tracing settings one notch lower put the card back in the fight.

RX 9070 XT gaming PC: which CPU should you pair it with?

In 1440p, a modern 6-core CPU like the Ryzen 5 7600 lets the RX 9070 XT work flat out in the vast majority of games. The processor only becomes the limiting factor in competitive play at very high framerates, and that’s where a Ryzen X3D makes the difference. Here’s how we choose in the workshop:

  • Ryzen 5 7600: the sensible choice for a 1440p gaming PC. 6-core Zen 4, DDR5, AM5 platform that will support future Ryzen CPUs.
  • Ryzen 7 7800X3D: its 3D V-Cache keeps FPS high and stable in competitive games and simulations. This is the core of our most balanced AMD gaming PC.
  • Ryzen 7 9800X3D: one of the fastest gaming processors around, and the one the press uses to test graphics cards. An RX 9070 XT gaming PC with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the configuration that leaves the fewest FPS on the table.
  • Core i7-14700KF: on the Intel side, 20 cores for those who stream or edit their videos in addition to gaming.

Two rules we apply to all our RX 9070 XT PCs: 32GB of DDR5 in dual-channel and a 240 or 360 mm watercooling. With 16GB of RAM, the card runs, but more recent games load more often and micro-stutters show up sooner. Power supply, case, drivers: what we check on every RX 9070 XT

AMD recommends a 750 W power supply for the RX 9070 XT, and that’s the minimum we build at the workshop. On our Ryzen 7 X3D configurations, we go for 850 W to keep headroom for power-consumption spikes.

  • The connectors: most partner models use two or three 8-pin PCIe cables. We use one cable per connector, never a split cable “Y” to power the entire card.
  • Size: allow more than 30 cm for an RX 9070 XT with three fans. The cases of our RX 9070 XT PCs leave room for it, plus direct airflow.
  • Drivers: we install the latest version of AMD Software before shipping and enable FSR 4 in the games that support it. That’s what turns 4K from “playable” into “comfortable”.

RX 9070 XT vs RTX 5070 Ti: which one should you choose for your PC?

With almost the same performance in 1440p, the RX 9070 XT wins on price, the RTX 5070 Ti on path tracing and the DLSS ecosystem. The right choice depends on the games you play most.

Your profileOur pickWhy
1440p 144 to 240 Hz, competitive and AAA gamesRX 9070 XTSame FPS for less
4K with upscalingRX 9070 XT or RTX 5070 TiOn average, a 3 FPS difference across 52 games
Path tracing, Cyberpunk OverdriveRTX 5070 TiNVIDIA keeps the edge on this rendering
Streaming and creationBoth, with an i7 Core or a Ryzen 9The processor matters more than the graphics card

Our take: the RX 9070 XT vs RTX 5070 Ti comes down to price, since performance is almost identical in 1440p. If you don’t play in path tracing, Radeon leaves you about a hundred euros for a better screen or more storage. And if you’re still unsure, our comparison RTX 5070, 5060 or 5070 Ti details the other camp.

Workshop opinion

For a 1440p monitor, the RX 9070 XT gaming PC is the one we recommend most often this autumn: 16 GB video memory, performance on par with the RTX 5070 Ti, and a friendlier price. Choose a Ryzen 5 7600 for efficiency, an X3D if you play competitive, and never go below 750 W.
